Sports give people a healthy avenue to get out aggressions and frustrations, regardless of whether or not you have a disability.

For those with a disability, sports “really allows you to push your body to a limit that you’ve never thought of,” explains Kris Cichowski, the director of the Life Center at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. For those who have acquired a disability and are going through an adjustment, “you are in a new state of mind and body,” she explains. Many wonder how they are going to be fit and active in their new situation, but Kris has seen that for many of those who have tried, “it’s broadened their social skills, brought them into areas where they’ve gained self confidence,” she shares.
